In this interview broadcast on Cumhuriyet TV, Prof. Dr. Murat Volkan Dülger answered legal questions connected with a case then pending against Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the day of its second hearing. The first part dealt with the offence of insult under Article 125 of the Turkish Criminal Code (TCK) and with how criticism directed by politicians at public officials is to be treated in relation to that offence. The holding of the hearing in a courtroom on the premises of a penal institution rather than at the courthouse, and the powers of the courts in this respect, were then assessed from the standpoint of procedural law. The final part addressed the possibility of a ban on political activity and the measure of pre-trial detention.
