About the video

When a court of first instance imposes a prison sentence, the person does not, as a rule, go to prison immediately. A conviction cannot be enforced before it becomes final (Law No. 5275, Art. 4); an appeal or appeal on points of law lodged in time prevents the judgment from becoming final (Code of Criminal Procedure, Arts. 275/1 and 293/1).

A person who was detained during the trial and whose continued detention is ordered remains in prison; this, however, is detention and not the enforcement of the sentence. Time spent deprived of liberty before the judgment becomes final is deducted from the prison sentence (Turkish Criminal Code, Art. 63, credit for time served).
