About the video

Letting someone else use your bank account or IBAN may not always be an innocent act. In investigations into fraud, illegal betting, the transfer of criminal proceeds and money laundering, account movements are among the important pieces of evidence. The video briefly explains the legal position and criminal liability of a person who merely lets their account be used.

Update: Law No. 7589 (16 July 2026) added a fourth paragraph to Art. 158 of the Turkish Criminal Code. Where the contribution to fraud consists only of giving another person the information or means that allow a bank account or card, one’s own or someone else’s, to be used, the penalty is reduced by half. The reduction lowers the penalty; it does not remove liability.
