About the video

This is the third live stream in the Criminal Law Conversations (Ceza Hukuku Sohbetleri) series; in this episode the two regular speakers are joined by a third criminal lawyer as a guest. The first part deals with the amendments to the law on the execution of sentences that entered into force around the time of the recording. The speakers discuss whether the legislation amounts to an amnesty, conditional release and the assessment of good conduct, prison conditions, and the guest’s observations on a penal institution visited in Germany. Reoffending by those released, the protection of the victim in cases of violence against women, and the Istanbul Convention also come up in this part. The second part looks at the future of the legal professions, the rise in the number of lawyers and law faculties, the entrance examination for the profession, and the examination system in Germany. The third part discusses the stance of criminal lawyers towards political power, with examples from Türkiye and Germany. The stream ends with recollections of Prof. Dr. Sahir Erman and his wife and a conversation about the values inherited from the previous generation of teachers.
