This is a recording of the online seminar Personal Data Protection in the New World (Yeni Dünyada KVK), published on the channel of the Mechatronics Engineers Association (Mekatronik Mühendisleri Derneği); the session was moderated by Gökay Işık, and the speakers were Cansu İğdeci, attorney-at-law, Prof. Dr. Murat Volkan Dülger and Dr. Ahmet Ali Süzen. In his first talk, Dülger dealt with the balance between freedom and security during the Covid-19 pandemic and with the need for compliance projects under Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK) to be carried out jointly by lawyers and information security specialists. In his second talk, the time limits for registration with the Data Controllers’ Registry (VERBİS), binding corporate rules, undertakings and explicit consent as routes for the transfer of personal data abroad, and a decision of the Personal Data Protection Board concerning an e-commerce company on cookies and transfers abroad were assessed. İğdeci spoke about remote working and distance education, e-commerce, the Ministry of Health’s “Hayat Eve Sığar” application and the processing of employees’ health data by employers; Süzen explained social engineering attacks and the cyber security measures that users can take. In the question-and-answer part, Dülger answered questions on the use of enterprise software with servers located abroad, default consent for cookies, the processing of health data by persons other than the workplace physician and the obligation to register with VERBİS, within the framework of the rules in force at the time of the recording.
