About the video

This is the recording, dated 17 December 2020, of an online talk programme hosted by two presenters. Starting from the access block imposed on a journalist’s posts and on any news reports that might be made on the same subject, the conversation addresses the state of freedom of expression in Türkiye and the criticism of public officials. It then discusses the relationship between social media and politics around the world, the procedure for the blocking of access in Law No. 5651, the way blocking decisions increase interest in the subject, and the limits of freedom of expression with regard to calls for violence and hate speech. The procedure for objecting to decisions of the criminal judgeships of peace and the proposal to establish a specialised court in this field are considered. The social media legislation adopted in July of the same year is compared with the German legislation, and the sanction of bandwidth reduction is discussed. The final part addresses the gap between the text of the law and its application, and the culture of complying with rules.
