About the video

This is an excerpt from a programme with several guests broadcast on Habertürk TV; the subject was the losses suffered on cryptocurrency trading platforms. Prof. Dr. Murat Volkan Dülger’s contribution dealt with the distinction between cryptocurrency itself and the institutions that act as intermediaries in its trading, the absence, at the time of the recording, of any regulation subjecting those institutions to licensing and supervision, and the regulation of this field rather than its prohibition. It was also noted that the law should settle whether aggravated fraud or the offence of embezzlement in banking applies in such cases. In the final part of the recording, the other guest considered the point that regulation would not remove the risk entirely, the risk of cyberattacks and the use of cold wallets.
