Abstract

This work was written in Turkish. The summary on this page is a translation; the citation gives the original title in parentheses.

Almost every day, many of us share photographs, videos or information about the places we have been or are going to on social media. We open accounts at banks and withdraw money from our accounts. When we have a health problem, we go to hospital to be examined. We go to a psychiatrist and tell them our whole life story, and sometimes our voice is recorded. We go to a plastic surgeon and have our nose or breasts done, and photographs are taken of all of this.

We share these and countless similar personal data almost every day with someone or on digital social media. All of these are personal data belonging to us, and we share them with others without a second thought; yet these data, that is, this information, relate to us, are capable of identifying us and set us apart from other individuals. These data are therefore extremely important and must be protected against unlawful use and interference by third parties!
