W: We are with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Volkan Dülger, Member of the Board of Directors of the Data Protection Association (Veri Koruma Derneği), to hear his views on the health sector on the basis of Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK). Do the physicians who sign contracts with the governors’ offices and bear operational responsibility for family medicine practices (Family Health Centres, ASM) have an obligation here? V.D.: Family physicians are subject to the same obligations as other physicians. That is, they may process health data only if the data subject has given explicit consent, or if the data are processed for the purposes of protecting public health, preventive medicine, medical diagnosis, treatment and care services, and the planning and management of financing. Apart from these, they have an obligation to inform their patients and an obligation of confidentiality.
