Introduction

This work was written in Turkish. The summary on this page is a translation; the citation gives the original title in parentheses.

On 30 October 2018 six members of parliament submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye the “Bill Amending Certain Laws and Decree-Laws Relating to Health” (the bill). The bill, which is currently on the agenda, aims to regulate many matters, from rules on preventing violence against healthcare workers to extending the scope of the smoking ban. The bill, which has had wide public resonance and is described in the medical community as the “violence in healthcare law”, consists of forty articles. The subject of this article, however, is confined to my assessment of Articles 17 and 18 of the bill, which contain the rules on organ and tissue transplantation and on surrogacy and sperm donation.
