About the video

No. The trial does not stop because the accused hides within the country or leaves it; the Code of Criminal Procedure regulates this situation under the heading “fugitive”.

A hearing may be held in respect of a fugitive accused, but no conviction may be handed down against a person who has not been questioned. The 12th Judicial Package (Law No. 7589) widened this limit: a decision that no penalty is to be imposed can no longer be given either. If a security measure is ordered, the accused or defence counsel may request a retrial.
