About the video
This is the recording of a short segment from a discussion programme on Habertürk TV dated 12 January 2021. Prof. Dr. Murat Volkan Dülger described in turn the emergence of personal data protection law after the Second World War, the 1981 convention of the Council of Europe, Directive 95/46/EC, the GDPR and the adoption of Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK). The approach of the European Union, which prohibits the processing of personal data as a rule, was then compared with the approach of the United States of America, which relies on sector-specific rules. The final part dealt with the application of WhatsApp’s new contractual terms on the use of data in countries outside the European Economic Area.
