About the video

In this segment of a programme broadcast on Habertürk TV after the earthquake, Prof. Dr. Murat Volkan Dülger answered questions on the legal remedies available to earthquake victims. The segment first dealt with the procedure for claims under compulsory earthquake insurance (DASK) and the extent of the amount paid, and then with the actions that those who have no insurance or whose loss is not fully covered may bring against the administration, the building contractor and others responsible, together with the competent courts. Limitation periods, the need for a lawyer’s assistance on account of the procedural rules, the earthquake committees of the bar associations and the legal guide prepared for earthquake victims by the Union of Turkish Bar Associations were also addressed. Finally, the problem of recovering a claim where the contractor has gone bankrupt, the liability of those who interfered with load-bearing columns, the preservation of evidence and the obtaining of a certificate of inheritance were considered.
